One Piece is the best-selling manga of all time and one of the greatest shonen anime in history. The One Piece live-action on Netflix has lived up to fans' unrealistic expectations, but changes have been made.
While the live-action stays true to the source, various changes have been made, leaving many fans wondering if there will be a romantic relationship between our beloved pirate crew. This uncertainty recently resurfaced as the news that has brought this live-action back into the spotlight after its release is the revelation of the romance ban in the series.

Especially between Zoro and Nami, played by Arata Mackenyu and Emily Rudd, many fans started pairing them when they saw the duo’s chemistry, but we have bad news for shippers.
In response to fan hopes, One Piece live-action showrunner and producer Steven Maeda revealed that manga author Eiichiro Oda set a particular condition for the live adaptation. He requested “no romance between the crew members.” This denies any possibility of a romantic development between Zoro and Nami in the series.
Maeda also stated that Mackenyu Arata (Zoro) and Emily Rudd (Nami) had good chemistry. However, it wasn’t planned. That while the series remained a faithful adaptation, there was no possibility of the relationship between Zoro and Nami becoming anything more than friendship.
That’s why many fans felt relieved that Eiichiro Oda had imposed such a restriction. Knowing Netflix, many expected the showrunners to include romantic themes to gain a wider audience.
