Synopsis of Kaijuu 8-gou
A world attacked by monsters called Kaiju, which have been appearing near Japan for years. It tells the story of Kafka Hibino, a man who always wanted to be part of the group that fights the Kaiju called the defense corps. But life led him to be a monster cleaner or basically someone who removes the colossal monsters that have already been defeated from the city. A story of overcoming this 'monster corpse collector'.
The world where the kaiju attack
As we told you in the synopsis, the world is constantly under attack by these giant monsters called Kaiju. Those who fight them use special equipment to defeat them since conventional weaponry does not work against them; these armored giants are enormous and above all destructive due to their colossal size.
The story doesn't present them as the first specimen we will know, a small monster about 60 meters long that destroys everything in its path. But it doesn’t end there, since after one of these monstrous enemies falls, residual Kaiju can remain, which are as big as a large cargo truck. The story does not tell us much about them but indicates how dangerous they are in the most interesting way with a battle and lots of action in the first episode.
This leaves a Japan under constant attack and a simple man who wants to protect everyone from the Kaiju. What this story holds for us is what we will know as it is narrated in the battles against the Kaiju in Kaijuu 8-gou.
Characters of Kaijuu 8-gou
Kafka Hibino
Kafka Hibino is a man who belongs to the monster corpse collectors, they clean up the remains of dead kaiju wherever they are liquidated. His dream was to be part of the defense forces but gave up after failing the exam and not qualifying for the defense forces.
Our protagonist really knows what he does in his job as a corpse collector and above all, he knows the kaiju very well. He knows them inside out after so much time working on cleaning up the disasters they caused when they died.
Reno Ichikawa
Reno Ichikawa is a young man about whom not much is said in the introduction of this anime but we are told that like Kafka he wants to belong to the defense forces and defeat the kaiju that destroy Japan. He is quite young and encourages Kafka to try again for the test now that the minimum age has been extended.
As they present him, he seems very close to our protagonist and who will also encourage him to try again. Will they manage to be part of the only ones who can defeat the kaiju?
Mina Ashiro
At just 27 years old she is the young captain of the third division that protects the Yokohama area, a promising young woman to be the next divisional commander. With her calm and serene aura she faces the Kaiju as a lethal weapon, accompanied by a white tiger. In her Kaiju hunts she is the best in her area and who has maintained peace in the Yokohama area.
How do Mina and Kafka know each other?
According to what they narrate, Kafka and Mina have known each other since they were little and made the promise of entering the defense forces together to defeat the Kaiju. A promise that Kafka has not been able to fulfill until now but which we hope he can fulfill during the plot of the story. Since their great dream is to defeat the kaiju after one destroyed their houses when they were younger.
Opinion and expectations of Kaijuu 8-gou
As you see, it's a story of growth with a well-defined protagonist and quite older than the average protagonists of Shonen. But not for that reason less charismatic, with his cheerful personality he really makes you want to know his story.
But don’t believe everything is rosy since this story has a rather particular twist at the end of its first chapter. A plot twist that will leave us wondering what the future holds in this war against the Kaiju. What are these grotesque creatures that attack everyone?
