Synopsis of 'Houseki no Kuni'
A long time ago, Earth was impacted by six meteorites, creating six moons and leaving only a solitary island in its wake. Those who could not reach the island sank to the bottom of the ocean, which over time slowly turned into crystal.
As several millennia passed, 28 of these crystallized life forms, known as the Brillants, emerged from the depths and resided on the island. Led by the wise Kongou-sensei, they must defend themselves against the seemingly endless number of Lunarians (inhabitants of the moons who seek to harvest their valuable bodies to make weapons and jewelry).
Having explained the context, Houseki no Kuni focuses on Phosphofilite, a young gem about to turn three hundred years old. Clumsy, extremely fragile, and with no visible talent, they are among the weakest gems that exist. They are unable to help in the fight against the Selenites in any meaningful way. As the battle against the otherworldly invaders continues, they will learn that power has a cost that no one should have to pay.
