Waifu is a term that to some will seem simply invented by some otaku in an internet meme. But really it's a word, but its meaning varies from what it actually means in Japanese to what is known in the West as a waifu.

If we go to its linguistic origins it is a romanization of the English word "wife" which means wife, that the Japanese adopted as Waifu to refer to their wives informally and totally casually.

But in the West it was given another meaning among anime and video game fan groups, a meaning that needs to be explored to really understand it.

What is a waifu?

What does waifu mean? Well, for anime fans and practically for all of the West, a waifu is an anime character that they consider perfect to be their wife. They are usually characters with traits that attract the person more than usual and with whom they want to have a romantic relationship, regardless of whether it is an anime girl in 2D or from a video game.

A waifu normally awakens desires in the person, these are often emotions such as love, desire in many ways and admiration. They are usually characters that border on perfection and for each of us will be different. Everyone can have a character like this no matter how reluctant we are to the subject.

There are cases where this is taken to the extreme but it is a decision of each one, what is important to keep in mind. Is that otaku communities tend to see well having a waifu but never being a multi-waifu, this if it is a great sin. Well not so serious but it will depend much on the specific community.

What is it like to have a waifu?

Having a waifu is having an anime, manga or video game character, whom we adore with all our being. It is a character that awakens some desire in us, for some it is to want her as a wife, for others it is simply carnal desires. But something we all agree on is that we would be their fans without any remorse.

So it's something relatively common in otaku groups today, but as we mentioned having a waifu is not a problem. Having more than one waifu is a big problem, so we invite you to stop thinking about the other waifus that you just remembered while reading this.

What does it mean to be a waifu?

It's very simple, you just have to be perfection for your fans in life, now if taking it a little more seriously. Being a waifu is something a bit beyond what would simply be admiring an anime character, at this point some people take it as "Doing cosplay of my favorite waifu". This would be the ideal option if we want to be the personification of our favorite character or do cosplay of that character that our partner so adores.

But what it should really be is, if we have a character that we truly admire to that point being a waifu is trying to get their values. Everything that makes that anime, manga or video game character unique and special. The reason why we want to be like her are values that can be obtained simply by getting to know the waifu you are looking for better.

What is a waifu auction?

This is a practice that is becoming increasingly frequent at anime conventions in general, the idea is simple but dangerous. A cosplayer is "auctioned off" to the highest bidder with the intention of spending about 30 minutes with the person who wins the auction.

The general idea is simple and does not seem problematic but it has its details, since the idea is that they spend some time together talking or simply eating together. Restricting obviously the space to the convention area. But it is a somewhat strange way of getting to know cosplayers and it would be even stranger to meet our definitive waifu after "paying" for her.

The truth is a fairly recent practice that has been implemented with the name of "waifu auction". But in context it is more an auction of cosplayers than spending time at the convention with you if you win the auction.

How to create a waifu?

Normally waifus are not created out of nothing but with the arrival of artificial intelligence, we can generate images of a specific waifu. You can even create different styles and look for which one we like the most.

But it is not the only option, if we want to create a waifu from 0 we can also resort to some illustrator who if we give references and explain what clothing we would like. Hair type, eyes and similar can create our perfect waifu at least physically.

Although we can use either of the two methods it is important that we have a clear idea of what we want physically. Then we will see what personality we want her to assume but this is already another topic, if we want to create a waifu what is sought is at least to have her physically.

How to summon a waifu?

This is a strong and delicate process that we must do with the right ingredients. We must do it at the indicated moment, that is at noon at an anime convention with the ingredients that we list here:

  • 1 Tray of 12 Takoyakis
  • 2 Bubble Teas of your favorite flavor
  • 2 Dango of your favorite flavor or 2 Mochi of your favorite flavor

Important note:Do not exceed the doses to improve the effect and avoid demonic catastrophes

Important note 2:We do not guarantee any success, it is not a scientifically proven method.

With this method it is very likely (not guaranteed) that someone will be summoned to your side to check on the particular delicacies you have there. We hope that the cosplayer who approaches you at that moment is just the waifu you have been waiting for and for whom you have worked hard in this invocation.

The meaning and use that internet has given it

Internet has given the word waifu a fairly recurrent use and has become so popular that today, in the West it is something different than in the East. Reaching being something similar to what happened with the famous "Yamete Kudasai"" which became so popularized by memes, completely changing its meaning outside of Japan.

This causes it to not be the same to say "Waifu" in Japanese than to say it in any Latin American country, so if you manage to go to Japan. Please be careful with what you say since words can have a different meaning from what we believe.
