True Beautyis a romantic comedy that follows the life ofLim Jugyeong, a young student with whom you can identify and whose physical appearance is... well, normal. Jugyeong is not a model, but she is a pretty lady who knows how to handle the brush. Her makeup skills allow her to ascend to the highest levels of society, attracting her friends and the male attention she previously lacked.

However, none of her friends know what she looks like without makeup, which leaves her insecure and uses makeup as a mask to hide her “ugliness”. Jugyeong is always on guard, fearing that her carefully selected world will crumble once others discover what she looks like under the mask.

Everything changes when the new transfer student,Lee Suho, enters her life. The handsome Suho not only immediately becomes popular among his classmates, but in a chance encounter, he also becomes Jugyeong’s only classmate to see her face without makeup. With her reputation on the line, Jugyeong must do whatever it takes to hide the truth about her appearance from the rest of her classmates. But the more time she spends with Suho, the more Jugyeong wonders if true beauty lies solely in one's appearance.

Opinion about True Beauty

This manhwa has a bad reputation among internet users, and well, the reason why is justifiable. If you like clichés, the typical drama of a love triangle and a main character without development, then this manhwa is for you.

Firstly, Jugyeong has no character development as mentioned earlier. We never once see her start to love herself and use less makeup. Suho knows what she looks like underneath but still wears makeup in front of him. Later, when he distances himself, she ends up dating the second male lead, Seojun, although she obviously still feels something for Suho.

The plot is very predictable. She is dating Seojun, but she will break up with him because she and Suho are the final couple. Jugyeong’s character boils down to crying, complaining, and drinking; she breaks up with Seojun due to her own insecurities, which is very unfair to Seojun since he can't control it.

Later, Suho returns and it’s obvious that they both feel something for each other despite Jugyeong literally forgetting about him and dating Seojun. Both male leads deserved better. The love triangle did nothing for the plot and the animosity between Seojun and Suho felt very strange and superficial.

But, if you still want to delve into this world, let me tell you that this story was also adapted into a drama byNetflixin 2020 and it has 16 episodes.
